Course overview

Upgrade your career in business with this advanced qualification. Management, HR and business are strong growth industries with attractive earning capacities. This course will give you the skills you need to seek employment in a leadership role in HR or as a senior executive.

According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, the number of people working as senior managers is expected to see stable future growth over the coming years. This large occupation is expected to create around 15,000 job openings over the next five years with opportunities available in manufacturing, health care, and public administration. 

You will be mentored in how to develop and implement business and strategic plans, manage risk, establish and maintain strategic networks, and use innovation in business. Our highly experienced team of industry leaders will give you the one-on-one mentorship to succeed in your studies and beyond.

Successful completion of this course will give you the specialised skills to lead in HR or as a senior executive or managerial director. You will also gain the knowledge you need to undertake further studies in your field.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

While there are no formal entry requirements for this course, TAFE Queensland requires the following selection criteria for Domestic students only:

  • Entry into the mainstream course is via direct entry and it is highly recommended that you have either of the following:
    • Diploma of Leadership and Management, Diploma of Human Resources or other relevant qualifications; or
    • Vocational experience but without formal supervision or management qualification.  
  • Entry into the accelerated course is via an application process and requires you to have at least 3 years' experience working in a medium to large organisation. Experience needs to include staff management responsibilities.
  • You should be currently working in a supervisory or team leader role.

Resources required

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

You will be provided with a recommended reading list and/or required textbooks during orientation or at the start of each unit. The purchase of these resources may incur additional costs, or you may be able to borrow them from the TAFE Queensland library network.

You are also required to have access to a calculator, a laptop or tablet device, a USB and a headset including microphone.

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
