Course overview

Enhance your trade career with this intermediate-level course. You will develop the specialised skills and knowledge needed to become an automation and control technician. With an increasing global appetite for automation systems in the manufacturing sector, demand for skilled tradespeople in this area is growing.

In this course you will learn how to assemble, set up, program, fault find, repair and maintain automated equipment and systems. You will also develop the ability to supervise plant maintenance programs and provide technical advice. Our experienced teachers will give you the one-on-one guidance you need to succeed.

Depending on your choice of electives, successful completion of this course may qualify you to work as an automation and control technician.

If all required core and elective units completed as listed on
www.training.gov.au up to the required point scale students
will receive the UEE43220 - Certificate IV in Industrial Automation and Control.

If only selected Skill Set units are completed students will receive a
Statement of Attainment for the completed units.

The successful achievement of this qualification requires you to complete all core units listed below, plus a combination of elective units with a total value of 760 points. Selection criteria

Must hold a Trade Certificate in one of the following areas:

  • Electrical
  • Instrument Fitter

Resources required

You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes.
This includes the use of:

  • safety glasses
  • protective footwear with safety toe cap and non-slip soles to AS2210
  • leather gloves to AS2161
  • hair protection
  • You should also wear 100% cotton drill industry-standard clothing

If you fail to meet these minimum standards of dress, you will not be permitted entry into practical classes.

Assessment methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
