Australia Pacific Training Coalition

The Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) is a centre of training excellence, helping Pacific Islanders gain Australian-standard skills and qualifications for a wide range of vocational careers throughout the Pacific. APTC works closely with industry representatives around the Pacific to ensure our training programs are relevant and aligned with current career opportunities for our graduates – careers where skilled employees are in high demand.
In addition to training for individuals, we offer employers customised training and consultancy services in targeted industry sectors to increase the productivity of their employees and the organisation.

APTC is an Australian Government initiative announced at the Pacific Islands Forum in 2006 and welcomed by Pacific Island leaders. We are funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and managed by TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275). TAFE Queensland has been involved with the project since its inception and is currently the Managing Contractor for Stage III of the project.

APTC offers Australian qualifications from Certificate III to Diploma level training in various vocational areas. Courses are delivered by highly regarded and qualified trainers, and so far over 12,500 Pacific Island graduates have been awarded an accredited Australian qualification.

Our performance

A 2017 survey of employers whose employees completed their studies with APTC in the past year indicates a rating of 98% overall satisfaction with the APTC programs. The same survey also indicates that over 87% of employers agree that APTC training programs have had a positive impact on the technical, personal and professional development of their employees. Furthermore, employers also indicated over 86% agreement that their APTC graduate employees had a positive impact on productivity and business performance.

A 2018 survey of APTC graduates indicated that 99% of graduates were satisfied with all aspects of APTC training and the impact it had on their personal and professional development one year after they had graduated.

Australian Awards Fellowship

TAFE Queensland works with its partners in developing countries to deliver customised training solutions which build the capacity of participants to contribute to the development of their organisations and countries.

Through the Australian Aid funded program, Australia Awards Fellowships, TAFE Queensland has been working with governments in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Nauru and many others to develop their Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) systems. These programs have provided opportunities for Fellows to undertake short term study and professional development at TAFE Queensland.

See what our Australia Awards Fellowships Alumni have to say:

"The passion and confidence which female staff have in different levels of management motivated and inspired me in my work. That is to be more confident and output-orientated in my division outcomes. This program made me see things in a more worldly view rather than the organisational boundaries I once had. The program so far outlined the fact that Papua New Guinea's TVET sectors main focus now is to be building skill capacity in assisting industry to meet the demand for labour by skilling the potential workforce."

Australia Awards Fellowship Round 15: Improve access to and quality of TVET for women in PNG Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, 2015.

When I return to my country, I would like to identify people with a disability in my area and develop a training program which is suitable to their physical condition using the skills and knowledge I have learned during the fellowship to develop it."
