Industry skills and experience

Our experienced teaching staff are still heavily embedded in the IT industry, so they know where the industry is headed and what skills employers are looking for. Study on campus and take advantage of optional internship units that add hands-on, real-life experience.

What you will study

If you have completed one of the below Diploma's you will gain up to one year's credit (8 units) towards this qualification:

  • ICT50220 Diploma of Information Technology (Advanced Programming)
  • ICT50220 Diploma of Information Technology (Advanced Networking and Cloud Engineering)

If you have completed the below Certificate IV you will gain one half year credit (4 units) towards this qualification.

  • 22334VIC Certificate IV Cyber Security

Entry requirements

Selection criteria

First year entry requirements
Entry into this course is based on an entrance rank. A rank can be achieved by the following means:

  • Year 12 ATAR 60
  • Diploma pathway
  • other Australian qualification
  • work experience
  • overseas qualification

Second year entry requirements
Completion of a relevant Diploma, including:

  • ICT50418 Diploma of Information Technology
  • 22334VIC Certificate IV in Cyber Security

The above Diploma qualifications award a full year's credit towards this degree. The Certificate IV in Cyber Security awards one semesters credit towards this degree.

Resources required

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access the online learning system Blackboard Learn and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

You may be required to purchase, or have access to recommended text books, which are listed under "Prescribed Texts" for each unit.

Placement

Professional Placement
You can undertake optional internship units. Internship positions vary depending on each your discipline area, placement firm size and industry. Recent roles undertaken by internship students include software quality assurance, coordinator, IT support officer, network support officer, software development and various other management and IT roles in private and government sectors.
