Prerequisite requirements
To enrol in this course, you must be currently working in the automotive industry and hold a relevant trade qualification.
For details on eligible qualifications, please refer to The Australian Refrigeration Council website (AAC02 – Refrigerant Handling Licence: Qualified Persons) and The Australian Refrigeration Council Fact Sheet
Please note that the list of eligible qualifications on the ARC website is not exhaustive and includes only the most common courses.
The Australian Refrigeration Council recommends that you supply copies of all qualifications and transcripts obtained to confirm eligibility for a specific licence before submitting an application online. To request verification, you can email the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) at enquire@arctick.org, attaching copies of certificates and transcripts.
Trainee Refrigerant Handling Licence
A TL000 - Trainee Automotive Air Conditioning Licence is required for a person who is handling refrigerant while undertaking this training.
You will need to
obtain a trainee licence prior to enrolling into this skill set through the
Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC).
Selection criteria
To enrol into this skill set you must hold one of the 10 automotive qualifications with adjoining conditions listed below, work in automotive mechanical or electrical technical contexts, and would like to apply for a Refrigerant Handling Licence (RHL)/AAC02 - Automotive Air Conditioning Licence.
- AUR20420 (previous AUR20416 or AUR20412) Certificate II in Automotive Electrical Technology
- AUR21416 (previous AUR21412) Certificate II in Automotive Cooling System Technology
- AUR30320 (previous AUR30316 or AUR30312) Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology
- AUR30420 (previous AUR30416 or AUR30412) Certificate III in Agricultural Technology
- AUR30620 (previous AUR30616 or AUR30612) Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology
- AUR31120 (previous AUR31116, AUR31114 or AUR31112) Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology
- AUR31220 (previous AUR31216 or AUR31212) Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology (supersedes AUR31720 (previous AUR31716 or AUR31712) Certificate III in Forklift Technology)
- AUR31420 (previous AUR31416 or AUR31412) Certificate III in Automotive Diesel Fuel Technology
- AUR31520 (previous AUR31516 or AUR31512) Certificate III in Automotive Diesel Engine Technology
- AUR32120 (previous AUR32116 or AUR32112) Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair Technology
- One of the Automotive trades listed above achieved prior to AUR05 (2005)
- Successful completion of an Automotive Apprenticeship e.g. Proficiency Certificate
- Automotive Trade Recognition Certificate
- Trade Certificate with a Trade Outcome and evidence of automotive industry experience.
Evidence of prior completion can be in the form of a statement of attainment, a record of results, or an authenticated USI VET Transcript listing the prerequisite unit.
Trainee Refrigerant Handling Licence
A TL000 - Trainee Automotive Air Conditioning Licence is required for a person who is handling refrigerant while undertaking this training.
You will need to obtain a trainee licence prior to enrolling into this skill set through the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC).
Apply for a trainee licence via ARC.
If you meet the eligibility criteria listed on the Arctick website under "How to obtain an Automotive Air Conditioning Licence", successful completion of this skill set is required to apply to Arctick for an AAC02 - Refrigerant handling licence – qualified persons (Automotive air conditioning licence).
Examples of eligibility include:
- A range of eligible AUR qualifications
- Successful completion of an automotive apprenticeship, such as a Proficiency Certificate
- An Automotive Trade Recognition Certificate
- A Trade Certificate with a trade outcome, supported by evidence of automotive industry experience
You should contact Arctick directly if you are unsure about their eligibility, as the list on the Arctick Fact Sheet is not exhaustive.
Alternatively, if the above criteria are not met, an RPL pathway may be available for the AUR20220 qualification.
You must obtain from Arctick TL000 - Trainee Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Licence (where workplace supervision is required).
